About the Forum

Who

The Open Group Healthcare Forum is a global, Member-led collaboration between industry stakeholders, regulatory bodies, other standards development organizations, and other consortia concerned with using IT to improve healthcare for the patient.  The Forum was formed under the auspices of The Open Group - a proven, neutral, trusted organization.

What

The Open Group Healthcare Forum is developing a path-breaking Health Enterprise Reference Architecture.  Starting with problems in search of solutions, we use open source architectural tools to map solution roadmaps.  Our work is aimed at the key decisions makers as much as the architectes who develop business, information, application, and technology solutions to a more patient centric,  efficient, high quality, sustainable enterprise, whereever it is located.

Where

The Open Group Healthcare Forum is a global, non-profit group of diverse stakeholders who meet both virtually (weekly) and in-person (quarterly).  Two in-person meetings (The Open Group Events you can read about on the Home Page) are in Europe and two are in the US, annually.

Why

The Open Group Healthcare Forum members strive to help provide higher quality and lower cost healthcare through the benefits enabled by Boundaryless Information Flow.  Members define the scope of work projects while applying expertise in healthcare through the discipline of Enterprise Architecture.

Vision

The exchange and safe flow of healthcare data is enabled through widespread adoption of standardized vocabularies and secure, efficient information sharing practices.  Boundaryless Information Flow, rooted in evidence-based research and best practices, can improve healthcare systems through achievement of higher quality outcomes, streamlined business processes, reduction of fraud, and innovation enablement.  We view the person at the center of information collection and sharing, though the number of stakeholders in the ecosystem is large and the levels of data aggregation many.

Mission

To improve health and healthcare by facilitating information flow throughout the healthcare ecosystem.  In all aspects of its work, including evaluation of other architectural systems, the Forum applies the discipline and principles of enterprise architecture.  When possible and appropriate, we build on and synthesize best practices developed by other standards-setting groups.
